Feeding calculator

Estimate daily and per-feed volumes for a formula-fed or top-up-fed baby, based on standard paediatric ranges. Your inputs stay on this device.

A general guide — every baby is different

Just like adults, babies vary in how much they need. These are general ranges for healthy, formula-fed babies. For a well baby, the most important thing is to follow your baby's feeding cues — hunger and fullness — and be guided by them, not by a number. Breastfed babies feed on demand and shouldn't be measured by volume. Talk to your Maternal & Child Health Nurse, GP, paediatrician, or lactation consultant if something doesn't seem right.

Mixed feeding (breast and formula)? This guide can't work out top-up amounts — follow the plan from your midwife, Maternal & Child Health Nurse, GP or lactation consultant.

Baby's age

Counting: the day your baby was born is Day 1 of life. A baby born yesterday is 1 day old, on Day 2. Enter age 0 weeks 0 days for a baby born today.

Baby's weight

In the first 2 weeks, use your baby's heaviest weight so far (usually their birth weight) — don't lower it for early weight loss.

Double-check kg vs lb — the wrong unit gives the wrong volumes.
